1. Learn the correct techniques
No offense from your friend Larry, but he may not be giving you the best advice. We’ve heard from players that after watching our videos or working with a coach that said they’ve been playing incorrectly for a long time.
You want to learn something? You could go to YouTube or Wikipedia. As Michael Scott in The Office said, “Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject. So you know you are getting the best possible information.” Wikipedia is the best thing ever
2. You want to beat that banger you always get stuck playing against
It’s frustrating when you are learning the sport and keep losing. It’s even worse when someone at your court makes negative comments or always hits it to you in order to win.
How do you turn the tables? Keep playing and partner with a coach that will show you how to get better and beat that player. It won’t happen overnight, but if you stay with it, you will improve and feel better the next time you step on the court.
3. You will gain confidence to compete in tournaments
Maybe you can’t imagine playing in one yet or can't picture yourself on the medal stand. There are tournaments happening everywhere, just check out Pickleball Tournaments to see the ones near you. You don’t have to be a 4.5+ player to compete in a tournament, you can play against 3.0 players. Tournaments don’t have to be expensive either, most events are less than $50 to register.
4. There’s a lot of information out there, a coach will give you the instructions you need
How do you get better at anything? By doing.
Want to shorten the learning curve? Learn from the best.
The first time I went snowboarding I fell so many times, I carried my snowboard down the mountain at the end of the day out of frustration. I eventually got better by watching and following other people down the mountain. Each time I got a little better, but it took most of that ski season for me to make it down the mountain without having a yard sale.
When it was time to show my kids how to snowboard, what did I do? I signed them up for lessons from professional instructors.
Whether you sign up for one of our courses or go another route, take the time to invest in your pickleball game and you will see the results. If you're new to the sport or a seasoned vet, we can all get better.
